Why use a popliteal approach?

When treating deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities, procedures such as pharmaco-mechanical thrombectomy/ thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy, manual aspiration thrombectomy are sometimes indicated and if necessary, the implantation of vena cava filter may also be considered in order to prevent the possible migration of trombi.

The popliteal approach offered by ALN provides a comfort solution for the patient who will not be mobilized unlike during implantation through jugular, femoral, brachial approaches and for the practitioner who will have vascular acces available.

Note that the popliteal approach can be used for all indications of placement of yhe vena cava filter, like any other approach.
